Apple boxes are the duct tape of the grip department. Sixteen total — four each of full, half, quarter, and pancake — handle leveling dolly track, raising an actor to a matching eyeline, propping a couch off its casters, building a low camera platform, or seating a director at the monitor. Stacked combinations get you to almost any height in small, predictable increments.

They're rigging hardware, too: a pancake under a turtle-base C-stand puts a light at floor level, a full on end is an instant side table for the DIT, and two fulls plus a half makes the classic low-mode platform for the Dana Dolly. Solid construction means each box holds a standing adult without complaint. Nobody ever rented too many apple boxes.
