The combo stand is what you put under a light you can't afford to have move. This Matthews triple riser reaches 14 feet and carries 68 pounds on its Junior pin, so the Aputure 1200x, the Nanlux 2400B, or an Arrilite with a chimera rides without flex or wobble. The Rocky Mountain leg adjusts to stairs and slopes — set it on a curb or a hillside and the stand stays plumb.

Unlike rollers, the combo plants and stays planted — the right call for a key light that holds position all day, or a backlight rigged high outside a window. The Junior receiver also takes baby adapters for smaller fixtures, so it scales from an Arri 650 up to the 2400B. Bag it according to height; the 35-pounders exist for stands like this.
