The menace arm solves the oldest problem in lighting: the light needs to be where a stand can't. A pipe cantilevers off a high roller or combo stand, counterweighted at the back, putting a fixture directly over the dinner table, the car hood, or the actor's head with nothing in the shot. It's how you hang a Lantern 90 over a table scene or rig an Astera Titan down a hallway ceiling.

The kit includes the clamps and hardware to mount fixtures or fly a small frame off the end. Rig it with real counterweight — this is what the 35-pound sandbags and a second pair of hands are for — and always safety the fixture. Done right, it replaces a condor for low-ceiling overhead work. The most cinematic light on set usually hangs from one of these.
